SAMPADA (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) scheme was launched in 2016 as an umbrella scheme by Ministries of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), but was renamed as Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana in 2017. Also, 32 new projects, worth Rs. 406 crores were extended to 17 states in year 2020.

Objective:

  • To supplement agriculture
  • To modernize and expand the already existing good processing units
  •  To create new food processing units
  • To decrease Agri- waste by adding value

The 7 components of PMKSY:

1. Mega food parks

Aim- To link agriculture production to marketing to increase income, maximize value addition,

generate employment and minimize wastage of Agri products.

  •  There are 22 operational mega parks.

2. Integrated cold chain, value addition &amp preservation infrastructure

Aim- to provide to provide cold chain management and preservation facility through

all the stages of supply chain, i.e., from farm to consumer.

3. Creation/Expansion of Food Processing/Preservation Capacities

Aim: To increase value addition, processing level and decrease the wastage by creating

new processing/preservation units and by expanding and modernization of the existing ones.

4. Infrastructure of Agro processing clusters

Aim- Motivate entrepreneurs to set up food processing units by using cluster approach by

linking groups of producers or farmers to the processors & markets through well- efficient

supply chain.

5. Scheme for creation for forward and backward linkages.

Aim- to provide bidirectional interconnection to processed food industry by joining the gaps

in supply chain from availability of raw material to linkages with the market.

6. Food Safety and Quality Insurance Infrastructure

Aim: all-round development of food processing sector.

7. Human resources and institutions Budget

  •  Being a centrally sector scheme it was fully  funded by the Centre and was allocated Rs.

6000 cr. for period of 2016-2020.

Advantages of PMKSY

  • Development of modern infrastructure units in processing and cold chain managements.
  •  It will lead to new employment opportunities
  • Will reduce wastage of Agri- produce, thatN happens mostly because of unavailability of cold storage infrastructure.
