National Livestock Mission

                                             

                                                 NATIONAL LIVESTOCK MISSION 
 An initiative of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer’s Welfare, National Livestock Mission was launched in 2014-15 with the aim to improve both qualitative and quantitative aspect of livestock production in India. It is also a sub scheme under white revolution. This centrally sponsored scheme has a total outlay of 2800 crores. 
 Objective: 
• Overall sustainable growth and development of livestock sector 
• To reduce demand- supply gap by increasing fodder availability
• Creating collaboration of farmers, seed corps. and private sector to increase production of good quality fodder. 
• Promoting scientific research for animal nutrition & livestock production
 • Providing all round infrastructure for market, processing & value addition
 • Promoting efforts to control disease control, food safety and supply of quality hides and skins through the timely recovery of carcasses. 
This scheme is an integration of 7 centrally sector scheme and 7 centrally sponsored scheme.

It was further subdivided into 4 sub- schemes. 
 1. Sub-Mission on Fodder and Feed Development Aim- to address and overcome the issue of scarcity animal feed resources. 
• To give livestock sector a push into the competitive market & harness its export potential
 • To reduce deficit to nil 1. Sub-Mission on Livestock Development 
• To generate productivity, increase employment ,encourage entrepreneurship & strengthen infrastructure with respect to modernization, automation and biosecurity, conservation of threatened breeds, minor livestock development, rural slaughter houses, fallen animals and livestock insurance. 
 2. Sub-Mission on Pig Development in North-Eastern Region:
 • Overall development of piggery sector in NER by improving health cover, post- harvest aspects and by importation of germplasm. 
3. Sub-Mission on Skill Development, Technology Transfer and Extension: 
• Development of new technologies to establish collaboration with farmers, researchers & extension workers.
