Mission Organic Value Chain Development

 for North Eastern Region

(MOVCD-NER)

This scheme is counted as a sub-mission under of National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) & was launched by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare during the 12th plan period on 11th January 2016.

This mission was implemented for only 8 north eastern states.

  •      Arunachal Pradesh
  •      Manipur
  •      Meghalaya
  •      Mizoram
  •      Nagaland
  •      Sikkim
  •      Tripura

 

OBJECTIVES:

·      Development of end-to-end organic value chain and livestock management, wild     crop harvesting and market for organic agricultural products.

·      Empowering farmers by organizing them into FIGs (farmer interest groups)

·      To replace conventional farming with commercial organic farming

·      Organic parks development

·      Developing strong market infrastructure to promote north eastern products as   brands and labels.

·      Creation of state specific lead agency such as Organic Commodity Board or     Organic Mission to monitor entire value chain.

·     To make north-eastern states major exporter of organic commodities to   international markets and major supplier to national markets.

·     To improve overall production, productivity and profitability.

 

Features Of the Scheme:

·     Central sector scheme, i.e., 100% funded by central government.

·     Budget: The scheme was started with annual allocation of 134 crore rupees, and    covered 74,880 Ha in 5 years.

·     Later to alleviate the impact of scheme the budget was increased to 200 crore rupees/ year with a target to cover 1 lakh Ha area

·     This mission was integrated with National Bamboo Mission to encourage     production of organic bamboo.
