Objective
- Promotion & extension of upgraded technology for both increasing production and resource conservation.
- To increase production of rice, wheat, cereals, coarse crops and commercial crops.
- To increase area of farming for such crops.
- To re-establish soil fertility and productivity at individual farm level.
- To reduce dependence on import of edible oils by increasing production of vegetable oil.

- A Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS)
- In 2018- 2019 & 2019- 2020, National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil palm (NMOOP) & Seed Village Programme were added to the list of NFSM, making it a total of 8 components.

o Nutria cereals- 14 states
Drawbacks
- There are cases of corruption in the system as good quality food grains are diverted to open market and the low-quality grains are distributed among the poor population
- This also leads to their nutritional requirement and health being compromised
- The mission does not cover vegetables and fruits, and since the purchasing power is low among poor people, nutritional requirement still remains incomplete
- Wastage of food grains due to lack of infrastructure such as cold chain management.
