GREEN REVOLUTION- KRISHONNATI YOJANA

Green Revolution- Krishonnati Yojana is an umbrella scheme that has been enacted by Government of India and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare since 2016-17 by combining 12 schemes. These schemes were combined together to promote the holistic & overall development of agriculture and its allied sector with a scientific approach to increase the revenue for farmers by enhancing production, productivity and better returns on their product.
The scheme was extended for FY 2017-18 to 2019-20. The total disbursement for this extended period was Rs. 33,269.976 crore.
The schemes under this scheme are as follows:
1. Mission Of Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)
It aims to encourage complete growth of the horticulture sector, from production to nutritional security and income support to farm Households.
The centre allocated Rs. 7533.04 crore for this scheme.
2. National Food Security Mission (NFSM)
Its aim was to increase the production of rice, wheat, pulses.
Later coarse cereals and commercial crops were also added to the list.
The aim can be attained through area extension and productivity betterment in a suitable manner in the recognized districts of the country, by restoring soil fertility and productivity at the farm level and by enhancing farm level economy.
3 3. National Mission on Oilseed and Oil Palm (NMOOP)
As the name suggests the mission is to increase the production of oilseed and oil palm.
It encourages farmers to cultivate oilseed & oil palm in their wastelands (periphery of a farm).
It also aims to increase the availability of vegetable oils so that we can reduce the import of edible oils.
This mission comes under NFSM only.
Total expenditure including both NMOOP & NFSM is Rs.6893.38 crore
4. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA)
The aim of this mission is to promote sustainable agriculture practices by using integrated farming, appropriate soil health management and by collaborating resource-conservation technology.
Total expenditure allocated for the scheme- Rs.3980.82 crore.
5. 5. Sub-Mission on Agriculture Extension (SAME)
It aims at strengthening the ongoing extension mechanism of State Governments, local bodies etc. by effective linkage and synergy among various stakeholders.
The goal is to achieve food and nutritional security and socio-economic empowerment of the farmers.
It promotes the pervasive and innovative use of print media, interpersonal communication and ICT tools.
Total budget for the budget was Rs.2961.26 crore
6. 6. Sub Mission on Seeds and Planting Material (SMSP)
It aims to increase production of certified/ quality seed, strengthen the seed multiplication chain, storage, certification & quality etc.
The focus is on promoting new technologies and methodologies in seed production, processing, testing etc.,
Budget: Rs.920.6 crore.
7.7. Sub Mission on Agriculture Mechanization (SMAM)
It aims to increase the reach of farm mechanization to marginal & small farmers having low farm powers.
It promotes custom hiring centres (CHC)
Total budget under this scheme: Rs.3250 crore.
8. Sub Mission Plant Protection & Plant Quarantine (SMPPQ)
Aims to decrease the loss of agriculture yield due to insect pests, disease, weeds etc.
Ensure biosecurity from intrusion from alien species
It promotes the export of agriculture products & encourages good agriculture practices.
Total budget allocated= Rs.1022.67 crore
9. Integrated Scheme on Agriculture Census, Economics, & Statistics (ISACES)
Aims to undertake agriculture census, study the cost of cultivation of the principal crop, research studies on Agro- economic problems.
It also focuses on improving the statistical methodology of agriculture & create a hierarchical information system.
Total budget distributed under this scheme: Rs. 730.58 crore
10. Integrated Scheme on Agriculture Cooperation (ISAC)
It aims to provide financial aid to cooperatives to improve their economic conditions
This will particularly help cotton farmers to get a considerable revenue for their product.
Budget of this scheme: Rs. 1902.636 crore
11. Integrated Scheme on Agricultural Marketing (ISAM)
This scheme aims:
To promote the latest and innovative technologies to improve agriculture marketing infrastructure.
To provide facilities for grading, standardization and quality certification of agricultural produce
To promote pan India trade of agriculture commodities
Total budget for the scheme- Rs.3863.93 crore.
12. National e-Governance Plan in Agriculture (NeGP-A)
The plan focuses to:
Bring farmer centricity and orientation to the programs
Improve access of information & services to farmers
Enhance the already existing ICT initiative & efficiency & effectiveness of the programs
Budget allocated- Rs.211.06 crore
Features:
The scheme is focused to achieve national food security, which is a crucial issue.
It will also encourage farmers to use sustainable agriculture practices.
It focuses on agrarian infrastructure which is very important because there’s considerable loss of agriculture products due to lack of the same.
It will also focus on reducing the dependence on imports of edible oil.
The Schemes/Missions focuses on generating & reinforcing the infrastructure of production, reducing production cost and marketing of agriculture and allied products.
Drawbacks
Low & marginal farmers cannot afford high-end technology.
The R&D sector of India is already ill funded & has a lack of resources, therefore there is a lack of researches in the agriculture sector.
Due to fewer jobs in other sectors the dependence on the farming sector is increasing.
Due to restrictions such as land leasing & acquisition, getting land for setting up agriculture marketing is very difficult
